Civil War patriotic cover - Jeff’s Knave - y. Comic portrayal of Confederate navy taken from the story of “Seven wise men of Gotham went to sea in a bowl.” The image was engraved by Hoyt. Condition is sharp & excellent on front. Reverse has minor clear glue spot, & shallow 1/2” chip from lip of flap. Not distracting.

This finely engraved card by the British American Bank Note Co. is a good example of fine hotel advertising in the trade card format. There is an simple elegance in design. The manager was George W. Swett, and there is descriptive text on the reverse. Excellent condition with a few very light smudges that are barely visible.
