Forczek [signed l.r.], The Annuciation, pastel illustration, camera ready, c. 1970.Size: 9 1/2 x 13" plus new mat; good condition. This is one of a series of Biblical illustrations that are camera ready. Leszek Forczek [ German-Canadian-American: b.1946] Studied art in Canada and Europe where he came under the influence of the works of Kandinsky and others of Der Blaue Reiter ; at the same time, he digested the color theories of Robert Delaunay and other French Modernists. Returning to the U.S. he settled in Santa Fe where he kept a studio and had one man shows. Later, he moved to California, settling in Northern California. He has had one man shows in Carmel, Santa Barbara, San Diego and Santa Monica. He entitles his distinct style as Illuminism, but Chromo-cubism is more descriptive. His pastels and watercolors are distinguished by their light [which seems to come from behind the subject, like a sunset] and transparency. He layers his colors, only revealing the concrete subject with the final applications of color. More information can be obtained from the website illuminismusa. Forczek was the subject of a cover story for the January 1982 issue of Southwest Art.
