I saw PBS's Nature program about the "billfish" of the oceans...marlin, swordfish, sailfish...top pelagic predators.. and dwindling in numbers because of long net fishing and the loss of food. They are important to the health of our oceans... Suddenly, this brooch seem like a really important symbol..
