These sweet little rings were popularized across all classes of society with money to spend by the French who borrowed the design from the English.. They were started about 1775 by an English enameler who perfected the smooth enamel technique.. The eldest daughter of King George III was gifted with one in 1788 by her brother & that set off the fad... They were called "rings of the sky" for stars in the night sky. COLOR:.. See picture..
