Katrifer's Shop Recipe: Vintage and collectible selections with a few special antiques added for spice.
I have found several different scenes similar to this style of the Guardian Angel protecting little children. It was a favourite scene to completed by various artists circa 1880.
I think it would have been created as a Nightlight and set in this framework in the early sixties judging from the electrical tags & cord ~ there is no on/off switch merely an electrical plug. The print itself is 8.5" X 6.25" and is attached to the outside frame measurement which is: 13" X 14". The frame is very elaborate plaster mold appearing like marble with veins of gold & white and grape leaves and grapes are worked into the corners & mid-points of each side. It's a very elaborate and gilded design and this frame has some damages to the plaster & marbleizing which I have tried to note in the pictures. I don't think it would take much to repair these areas. There is a circular ring for hanging the light on the wall surface.
It is a lovely treasure of protective love and hope that displays with great presence either lit or unlit by the nightlight. It was imported into Toronto by Lima Novelties on Lombard Street.
