SALE Vintage Chalkware Clown with Poodle Carnival Figure

What a wonderful and LARGE vintage clown chalkware statue, guesstimated to be from the 1950's or possibly 60's era, when chalkware was wildly popular and these prizes were won at carnivals and fairs!

This great Clown (Boffo) is a majestic 2 feet tall by 7” across his base, there is a hole in his base which is covered by an old piece of felt, so he doesn't weigh as much as many chalkware pieces; that leads me to believe he is possibly from the 50's or 60's, when carnivals and fairs popped up around the country in the summer time. He has black tears on his cheeks, a big smile on his face and is holding a poodle while standing on a round star-studded platform.

“Boffo” is finished in wonderful bright colors over a white background and shows much detail to his design. His colors are splotches of yellow, red and blue to his outfit on a white background. He has wonderful detail overall, from the lines in his face to his loosely draping clown costume. There is black trim to his eyebrows, black tears, bow and toenails (yuck) and he is holding a small white poodle that is trimmed with black dots in his left hand.

Condition: “Boffo” has a few issues to his chalk body which is not unusual for these old pieces, there is a large chip to the rim of his small red hat that measures 1-2/” long by 1/4” deep, there are three chips on the trimmed ruff of his red sleeve and a few small chips to his toenails, back of his orange hair and yellow ruff around his feet.

Because of his age and the dust hidden in his clothing, Boffo could use a bath, but I will leave that up to his next owner.

“Boffo” is a terrific and rather rare collectible for his size. Chalkware is becoming highly collectible and sought after these days--make "Boffo" part of your collection!
