Welcome to my shop! I have experience with pottery, books (and cats) and hope I can help you find what you're looking for!
My searches gave me this info: “Dieu et mon droit has generally been used as the motto of English and later British monarchs since being adopted by Henry V (1413–1422).”
Translation: The motto appears in French and translates into English as "God and my right". (A fuller version of the motto is also quoted as "God and my right shall me defend.” Originally spelled Dieut et mon droict in early Modern French the t in Dieut and c in droict were later dropped in accordance with present French orthography
Measurements: 6-1/4” across x 5-1/2” deep x 2-3/4” tall. This has a nice clean deep red velvet lining and padding inside. The bottom has a round piece of red velvet attached. This could use a polishing to it’s ornate embellishments. There is one scratch to top measuring 1-1/4" long, and there are some oxidation spots also which I will leave cleaning up to it’s next owner.
What a great old piece with some nice history! As always, thanx for shopping Katiques! And please take the time to see my happy customer testimonials on my "about me" page!! I would be happy to do a two-month layaway on this item also...
