She is on a slender wood and composition body with straight wrists. She is jointed at shoulders and hips, has painted pink stockings with red stripes at the tops, and molded and painted one-strap black shoes.
There are no chips, cracks, or repairs to the beautiful bisque head, and the body is in unusually good condition, with a small paint chip to the underside of the right fingers (doesn't show from the outside of the hand) and a glued repair to the hip attachment of the left leg. Her replacement mohair wig is gorgeous and was likely made specifically for her, as it is a perfect fit without being glued.
Her early costume is possibly original to her and in a French regional style.
The maker is a mystery, although we have some clues. 1) Ernst Grossman was known to produce Belton type dolls and had two patents to compete with the French. His dolls sometimes had bisque bald heads with small holes which would define a Belton. See page 495 of "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Dolls, Volume II" . 2) There is a resemblance to early Simon & Halbig dolls found with the Belton type dome heads, but are not well-documented. See pg 130 on "Belton" dolls in the same reference book.
This is an exceptionally pretty doll, beautifully presented and ready for display.
