The cabinet is in exceptional condition with original finish, hinges and door latch. The galleries to display pewter or faience pieces have plate grooves, and the bottom elaborately ventilated doors hide two shelves which are fixed in place.
Historical Information: Skilled carpenters made these beautiful cabinets with raised panels and wheel shaped ventilated doors. These cupboards were traditionally part of a young woman's dowry and were passed down through the daughters in the family. Once placed in a woman's new home after her marriage, the chest contained her linens, pewter, and personal treasures.
Dating from the late 1800s to early 1900s, the measurements are 10-1/2" wide, 6" deep, and 18" tall.
Condition is excellent, with minor shrinkage splits on the very top of the cabinet (see photos) which have been reinforced sometime long ago. Otherwise in exceptional condition with original hinges and door latch.
