Beautiful early cotton fashion doll gown, c1860-1870, made of a very fine cotton in a tan and cream leaf print. The longest seams are machine-stitched, but the rest of the garment is hand-stitched, including the braid trims and hand-stitched buttonholes.

This is a light summer gown and is unlined. We didn't notice until after the photos were finished, that the sleeve hems were turned under and inside was hiding a braided hem embellishment, so we added a photo of the unfolded sleeve showing the braid.

Measurements and Condition: Bodice is 9-3/4" long in front 8-1/2" long in back; neck opening 7-1/4"; across shoulders 5"; bust under arms 12-3/4"; waist 11-1/4". There are a few very light brown stains, all small, on the back and two small areas of wear on the right sleeve, only noticeable on close inspection. Under-skirt is 13-5/8" long in front and 18-1/2" long in back; waist 9-3/8". One tiny wear spot on front of skirt, hidden under the over-skirt, and one line of gathering stitches partially-removed, shown on the view of the back. Over-skirt is 11-1/4" long in front and 14-1/2" long in back; waist 9-1/2". A few small holes and a print flaw (streaked area) on the back of the skirt.

A stunning costume for a larger early French Fashion Doll, China head doll, parian or papier mache lady doll measuring from 18" - 23" depending on the proportions. The separate bodice allows for a significant amount of adjustment in length.
