This face is very similar to the Jenny Lind Conte & Boehme face, with deep modeling of eyelids and chin, completely different than the face commonly found on the "covered wagon" hairstyle china heads.
Shoulder plate is deep and sloping and there is a very slight flesh-tone to the china, not pure white and not pink tint, but just a creamier coloration found on the earliest of the circa 1840 porcelain heads. The facial painting includes black lash lines, red lid lines, accented nostrils and eye corners, and darker red line separating the lips; cheeks are gently blushed. There is minor wear to the elevated molded details as is typical for china heads; there are no chips, cracks, or repairs to the china head.
Antique cloth body, likely original to the doll, has leather lower arms and the body itself has remnants of it's original coating similar to some early cloth and folk rag dolls we have sold (please see photos).
The doll is dressed in a period fine wool red, green, and gold plaid dress with ruched and herringbone sectioned bodice, cartridge pleated skirt, over cotton undergarments, brown socks, and tan leather slippers.
Wonderful early doll, dressed beautifully in period costume, and ready to display.
