Very fine hand-pressed in mold, china shoulder head of adult lady with slender face, elongated throat, black sculpted hair waved away from face in loose curls captured at the nape and held by woven coronet braids. She has the dramatically deeply sculpted eye sockets known to be a trademark of the Conte & Boehme Porcelain Factory. The shoulder plate is very deep with sloping shoulders and four sew holes. One shoulder has some kiln dust which is fired in and occurred while the head was in the kiln.
Her painted features include upward glancing eyes, aquiline nose, shaded blue eyes with black lash lines, red lid lines, and accented eye corners and nostril dots. The heart-shaped mouth has shading and the appearance of outlining, as well as a longer sweeping separating line in a slight smile.
The muslin stitch-jointed body has fabric that is newer than the head and limbs and likely covers the original fabric. The porcelain lower arms and legs are in excellent condition without damage or repair and are beautifully molded.
Her period costume is likely original to the doll and does have some mending on it. It is a blue and white fine cotton lawn print in one of our favorite early styles and is so flattering to this doll and brings out the blue eyes perfectly. She also has lace trimmed undergarments beneath.
Condition: Excellent; no chips, cracks, or repairs to the gorgeous head or lower porcelain limbs.
Note: Additional photos are available. Please email to request what part of the doll you wish to see.
Rare china head lady in a marvelous large size, exhibits drama and true presence as displayed in her period costume.
