Head has a light pink tinted glaze and shoulder plate with four sew holes. Beautifully painted features which are typically less defined in the small chinas, includes shaded blue eyes, black lash lines, red lid lines, and heart-shaped lips with extended separating line.
Original cloth body is made of a linen-type woven cotton which is hard stuffed with sawdust, is stitch jointed at the hips and shoulders, and has china lower limbs with painted glazed brown boots. The body is a beauty and has no leaks or patches and only a very tiny flake at the toe of the right boot.
The doll is dressed in a lovely hand-stitched, period two-piece gown of coral and cream ottoman with black velvet ribbon trim and lace sleeve inserts inside the bell cuffs. The dress has considerable wear as shown, but we believe it is wonderful and accents the doll’s coloring perfectly.
Condition: Excellent; no chips, cracks, or repairs to the gorgeous china head and no breaks, chips, or repairs to the lower limbs (just the one toe flake as previously disclosed).
Excellent example of the Dolley Madison china, in wonderful condition and period costume, ready to display in your cabinet collection.
