Antique Valentine Card Theorem Missive of Love

Here is one for the serious Valentine collector! It is called "Shower of Love" and is presented in its original box. Measuring a gracious 11" x 9 1/2", this beauty will stand on an easel back when displayed out of the box. A 1 1/2" silk- like scalloped fabric edges the entire Valentine. The center area (8" x 6") lies host to a wonderful theorem painted scene. Done on velvet, there are painted red heart raindrops filling the skies above a quaint little town. A Victorian paper lithographed mandolin(?) playing angelic being sits beneath a fabric covered umbrella...then, there is a card with loving sentiments beneath the angel. Overall, this is in beautiful condition and the rarity and desirability of this missive of love warrants you to forgive the few small flecks and shadowy marks on the ribbon edging. The lid is marked H V Co. (or H U Co) and also Art Novelty. Possibly the Esther Howland Company?? This is one of the nicest and rarest Valentines I have seen in years...a true collector's dream card from the late 1800s. Though the box has been taped in years past, it holds a real treasure for the collector! This comes to you from a private collector who has many valentines featured in several books on Valentines by Katherine Kreider.
