Here is a very unique and special card in the original box marked from the world renowned Whitney Art Company (which went out of business back in the 40s due to the paper shortage of WWll.). This card is a beauty! The light blue embossed artboard background lies host to a padded fabric covered layer with one silk edge. The lettering and the outline of one print scrap is done with gold glitter paint...this is also used as a border around the entire card. There is a precious little card attached with 3 Victorian dressed children which is a reminder to all of us of those "Happy Hours" spent as innocent children. In addition, this card has a blue celluloid upper corner with a ribbon tie as adornment. When removed from the box, you will be delighted to find this has an easel back so it will stand upright freely! This beauty measures 5 1/4" x 6 1/2"...a true treasure, this will delight any collector of ephemera. A wonderful gift idea too for a special friend or collector. Please note there are a few imperfections that are easily forgiven due to the age and uniqueness....this probably dates to the 1870s or 80s...there are some brownish marks on the fabric similar to foxing (these appear darker in my photo than in person) that I believe are from storage in the box...and one corner of the box lid has a split which I have repaired with removable tape on the inside. Overall though, this is a very desirable card from an early US maker...the box is marked with a paper label...Whitney's Art Novelties, No.734. A card such as this could have been given for a wide variety of holidays or special days.
