This 14 ½ inch doll has the most charming face I have ever encountered on a Babyland Rag doll. The minute I saw her, I knew that it was hopeless and I just got out my checkbook. The polished cotton photograph face is in excellent clean condition with no staining and tears. This little girl’s body is quite a mystery. I believe her body is original although one leg is a different color. The stitching is identical and it may be that, when she was manufactured they just changed fabrics in the middle of her construction. The dealer I purchased her from also believed this to be the case. I call it to you attention so that you, as the buyer, can make up your own mind if this is an issue for you. It certainly wasn’t for me once I got a look at her pensive somewhat sad little expression. She clearly needed a home and I couldn’t resist. Some dolls you buy simply because they speak to you on a visceral emotional level. The back of her head was recovered with old stockinette fabric sometime in the distant past. Underneath you can see the original brown cotton fabric. This sweet little girl wears an old yellow cotton print dress with a red and white checked kerchief and old black leather shoes. She also is wearing an antique cotton petticoat. These dolls were sold by the Horsman Company at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th.
