SALE Bald Head “Biedermeier” German China Head Doll

This 17 inch tall china head doll has a solid dome shoulder head with painted features, delicately molded ears, and a black pointed spot on the top of her head. Her head has no chips or cracks. There is a small inherent indented dot on the center of her chin that appears to have occurred with her original firing. This slight flaw almost looks like a dimple on her chin. This sweet young lady has an old cloth body with leather arms. One of the arms has had a leather patch repair. The body appears to be old and clean with some age discoloration to the cotton fabric. The clothing is such a tight fit on the arms that I did not try to completely undress this doll for fear of damaging the clothing or body. This doll has a replaced, but appropriate, auburn mohair wig with braided buns over each ear. She wears two old petticoats- one is primarily lace and the other is cotton with eyelet trim. Her pantaloons are cotton with lace trim. All her underwear has somewhat yellowed with age. Her dress is a lovely black antique velvet creation adorned with black jet trim. The antique bonnet is trimmed with black lace and fabric flowers. I believe this bald head china, circa the 1850s, was made by the German firm of Kestner & Co. She has painted blue eyes with white iris highlights and a Mona Lisa type smile. I love her expression and healthy double chin appearance.
