Charming 20” Gaultier Bebe in a unique patterned antique velvet jumper over organdy blouse with a large burgundy antique ribbon bustled at the back. She wears an antique straw hat over a human hair wig. Red stockings and red antique French cloth shoes compete her stunning costume. She is very pale bisque and the look of the earlier block letter mold of the earlier Gaultier bebes with a cartouche (scroll) mark. See Jan Foulke for examples of the earlier mold with cartouche mark. No damage of any kind to the bisque.- it is high quality. The painting of her face is exquisite with the turned up Gaultier mouth edges that give his dolls a “Mona-Lisa” smile. Her blue eyes are gorgeous paperweight and set.

She has a French wood and composition body in the Gaultier style with angled cuts at her joints. It has old repaint on her hands and some chips on her toes which we find frequently with the composition of F.G. bodies. Her left arm goes into the socket a bit far, but this is not noticeable when dressed. Her left foot had a cut around the ankle that allows her foot to turn as if on a joint. It almost looks like she was being made into a jointed ankle doll??

I find her elaborate costume and lively personality very appealing. She is an arresting doll that can delight the French bebe collector. The pictures do not do her justice.
