This lovely 12” doll is an example of dolls made in the Sonneberg region of Germany in the 19th century to compete with the dolls of the great French dollmakers. They were often sold in the French Market of the day. Her bisque is high quality, without any flaw or damage. She has the solid dome head characteristic of dolls referred to as Beltons. Her painting is detailed and fine. Note the careful outlining of her mouth. She has set dark brown paperweight eyes and a mold that resembles the Premier bebe. She is the very desirable small cabinet size. Her body is wood and composition, fully jointed, in the solid early Sonneberg style and has its original finish. It has some wear, but I strongly prefer that state and patina to repainting. Her wig is a nice blond mohair replacement. She wears a darling antique shirt dress in pink and white striped cotton that is very well made. Her antique underwear is crisp batiste with lace trim that may be original. She has brown leather shoes that are vintage in my opinion. Her costume is topped off with an antique handmade straw and fabric hat.
