This 16” doll is part of the series of folk art dolls in authentic ethnic costumes that were made in the Toy-making center of Russia – Sergiev Posad , beginning in prerevolutionary (before 1917) times. This doll represents the Mordva region and is marked with a label reading “Mordwa Woman” Made in Russia. The use of Russia instead of Soviet Union indicates that this doll was made before 1917. LAYAWAY This is a mint example of the traditional Russian Tea cozy in doll form made from 1900 to the present. This 18” doll is from before 1935 as it is marked Made in the Soviet Union, a description that was changed to USSR in 1935. She has bright color and a character face with blonde floss hair. She wears the traditional folk costume of European Russia with the white long sleeved blouse and lovely flowered skirt.
