It might be older, but we can't recall having ever run across any 14-karat gold filled jewelry that was clearly older than the 1950's.
The locket is obviously heart-shaped, 14-karat yellow gold-filled, hallmarked "1/20 14KT GF," trademarked with the block letter "R" (about which we could find no information), measuring 1 inch long (including the bail -- 7/8 of an inch without the bail) and 3/4 of an inch wide. The engraved leafy design on the front has been intentionally darkened, and the heart shape on the front is itself suitable for engraving.
The metal is highly polished and difficult to photograph; dark areas in our pictures are shadows and reflections, and the metal is not as dark in real life as it appears in our pictures -- it remains bright and shiny.
Overall condition is very good, though there are some minor issues. There is a small shallow dent at the top of the leafy design on the front, a small dark spot on the back, light scratches front and back, and only one clear plastic cover for a picture remains inside of the locket.
But the latch works fine, and the locket still has loads of character -- it deserves to be worn again.
