Jewelry with an attitude!
The leaf was coated (back-side only) with pure silver paste, about 30 times, drying between each coat... and was then kiln-fired to burn the leaf away, leaving the beautiful leaf texture. The detail was then accentuated using a patina of liver-of-sulfur, followed by tumbling in a vibratory tumbler to bring the high points back to a bright silver.
In front of this leaf is a very interesting bezel-set piece... it started as a highly-texturized heart (pure silver, of course), with a fine silver bezel setting for a gorgeous cobalt blue glass cabochon. I added a clear cubic zirconia and a couple of silver balls below the cabochon... this piece alone is quite pretty...
But when I put the two pieces together, it was clear that they were meant to be together! The coloring, the size, the texture... just perfect! I used sterling jump rings to connect them, and added a double-chain (sterling), looped on each side (this looked better than a chain that ran across the top of the piece)... and I added a heart-lobster clasp (sterling).
This pendant measures about 1 9/16" tall x 1 7/16" wide. The chain opening measures about 19" (with the double-chain). There are about 10 grams of pure silver in the pendant.
This is a Holly Thompson original... created by accident... one of my favorites!
