"Dripping in Sapphires" Dragon Necklace - Christi Friesen Focal

The focal point of this whimsical, yet elegant, necklace is a gorgeous hand-crafted dragon ("Little Blue") created by Christi Friesen. Christi sculpted this dragon using polymer clay, with embedded gemstones (sapphires, a freshwater cultured pearl, garnet eyes). Christi's signature can be seen on one of the little wing feathers ("CF").

The gorgeous sapphires in this focal bead deserved an equally stunning and high-quality strand for the necklace. I chose the most gorgeous faceted, sparkling sapphire strand for this piece. I added two loose strands, which hang through Little Blue's tail and out the front (as if Little Blue is draped in sapphires).

The neck opening on this piece measures about 20.5". The focal dragon measures 2.75" x 1.5". A magnetic clasp closes the necklace. Gold-filled beads were mixed in with the sapphires for added interest.
