SALE Alfred Philippe Crown Trifari Pair Blue Enamel Tulip Fur Clips with Rhinestones
A beautiful find--times two!--with a distinguished pedigree. Patented April 11, 1939, by head designer Alfred Philippe for Trifari, Krussman, & Fishel, Inc., it is amazing that these fur or pin clips have stayed together all these years. Each is a single tulip supported by a stem with three leaves in blue, brown, and green enamel respectively. There are also several green leaf fronds rising beside and above the flower heads. Tiny clear rhinestones stud the inner surface of the flower petals and accent the leaves. Note the clever illusion of the "curled" leaf tips and the lighter green enamel brushwork on the leaves. The blue enamel flower petals are slightly curved and attached to the rhinestone-studded back, adding more depth. Both clips bear the Trifari with a crown mark and the design patent number.
Fur clips measure 1 ¾" north-south by 1 1/8" east-west. Depth is ¼". Both clips have the "tall T" Trifari with a crown mark on the clip mechanism and Des. Pat. No. 114234 on the body of the pin. Clip mechanisms are tight, sharp, and in good condition. The enamel shows some wear (mostly on the edges of the blue tulips), as can be seen in the photos. There are two tiny rhinestones missing on each clip (tip of a leaf and end of stem on one; inner curve of a frond and tip of same leaf on the other). Some of the stones are starting to show their age, but this is not unusual for items of this vintage. All stones are glued-in. The rhodium plating is in excellent condition. Over all, these fur clips are in very good vintage condition.
