This is another neat example of mourning jewelry. This type of jewelry was very popular in the mid 1800's. A similar bracelet can be seen on page 15 of Old Jewelry 4th Edition by Jeanenne Bell. These fabulous hair pieces were commonly made for friends or family members in memory of the deceased.
This piece is a hair bracelet made of dark brown woven hair with a fancy clasp. The clasp appears to be gold filled with a central rhinestone or citrine stone in the center. The clasp has a little loop on the bottom so that one can add a locket if desired. The clasp is in excellent working order with no flaws.
The bracelet is in good vintage condition. The woven hair is not as tight on the right side and has a little bit of hair that has come loose from the clasp. Maybe somebody has the patience and skill to fix this. I didnt want to try to mess with it. There may be a few little nips and tucks and there certainly is some extra dust which I can see from the photos. The photos magnify the bracelet to the extent that I can see things I couldn't see with the naked eye.
Overall I think the bracelet is in good antique condition.
