The focal point of this lovely bangle is actually the hinge, which is covered by a plate crowded with miniature adornments in typical Victorian fashion: There's a teensy white pearl, a curving row of brass lace, a curve of square-cut Persian turquoise stones, a larger row of brass lace, and finally a fan with a tasselled handle, all crammed into a space merely 1/2" wide x 3/4" high! On the back of the hinge is the date the device was patented, Dec. 16, 1879. Fully closed, the bracelet's interior dimensions are just shy of 2" x 1-3/4", but it can be worn partially open to accommodate a larger wrist. It's in excellent condition, with a delightful patina and no verdigris. Marked "Pat. Dec. 16, 1879" on the back of the hinge.
