This type of earring was popular during the Mid Victorian period, when long dangling earrings were all the rage. They are made of thin gold sheet, which is polished and engraved on the fronts. They were inevitably made of several parts, layered and connected by simple rivets or cotter pins. These earrings feature a glass "stone" which is unusual. It is hard to photograph, but the glass disc appears to have a clear cone shape set in the center of it. I have never seen this before. If you don't like black, my jeweler can replace this glass stone with a turquoise or coral cabochon for a small fee- email me for details.

These earrings appear to have their original earwire- note the end is melted into a round ball-this helps keep the earring from accidentally slipping out of your ear. They measure 2 1/4" in length and are a warm slightly pink yellow gold. They are unmarked but jeweler tested as being 10k gold. There is a bit of tarnish (normal for antique gold) which I didn't notice until I saw the photos. I can remove it if you so desire. The very bottom of the earrings have slight indentations which could be burnished out, but as you can see in the pictures it is not noticeable when worn. They weigh 4.2 grams.
