These earrings, which likely started life as Georgian era paste buttons, are in pristine condition for their 200 plus years of age! The paste "stones" were carefully hand faceted and polished, and set in hand made bezel settings, featuring the tiny pinched prongs typical of the era. They have no chips or scratches, and only the slightest bit of wear to the facet edges when viewed critically under a jewelers loupe. The high domed closed backs are typical of Georgian design, and are smooth and perfect. The foil backing is completely intact and has mellowed ever so slightly over the ages, in an even and attractive manner, resembling pale champagne diamonds in certain lighting, and bright white overall.

The buttons were expertly converted into earrings in a manner which is sensitive to the antique aesthetic. They feature 14k gold wires, so they can be worn by ladies with sensitive earlobes. They measure 1/2" in diameter, and as you can see in the photos, look quite impressive when worn!

True antique paste jewels are a pleasure to behold, but it is becoming very difficult to find in good condition. Collectors of fine paste jewelery are know that these "stones" were not considered a cheap imitation when they were created. They were cut and polished just as natural stones were, and set in precious metals. Imagine the fine dress or waistcoat which was graced by such buttons! Georgian jewelery in general is becoming difficult to find in any condition, and tastefully done conversions are now considered quite acceptable.
