This is a photolithograph print, pencil signed at lower right by the major British sporting and equestrian art master ALFRED JAMES MUNNINGS (1878-1959), issued by the Fine Arts Society in 1935 and embossed at lower left with their distinctive blindstamp. I believe the title/subject matter to be "Their Majestys Returning from Ascot" (as in the annual highly formal, traditional summer horse races at Ascot, near Wimbledon). This print is in marvelous condition with fresh unfaded colors. The scene has amazing depth and realism. One can sense being in this huge park-like setting on a summer day, with a building thunderstorm in the background providing drama. The artist needs no introduction among collectors of art related to the horse. As perhaps the most coveted sporting artist, his oil paintings at auction in New York and London have exceeded one million dollars a number of times and I believe the highest price achieved is over $4 million. Munnings luckily made these special prints through his relationship with the Fine Arts Society, so, today, those who appreciate his amazing ability to portray the horse in art can own something his hand touched, without having to spend in the millions. This work measures 14 3/4" by 26" (the image only) and the entire framed work measures 26" by 36". The piece came out from the estate of big time Hollywood producer David Selznick (of "Gone With the Wind" and other major films fame) and his wife actress Jennifer Jones. Shipping wizard figures are a guessimate of actual costs. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP, including another signed print by Munnings.
