MAX SLEVOGT (1868-1932) important German impressionist artist pencil signed etching

Etching, sheet size 21" by 15 1/4" (12 7/8" by 9 1/8" inside the plate mark), pencil signed at bottom right by the artist, major German impressionist painter MAX SLEVOGT (1868-1932). There are also difficult to decipher notations in German hand in the lower left and right corners. The scene is a man, possibly a soldier, holding a rifle, with other armed figures in the background. Condition is good with no foxing or water damage; there are some creases in the outer margins, around the watermark in the paper, well outside the image area. The artist's works sell at major auctions in Germany and elsewhere, to upper five or lower six figures. This piece was offered in the past at Villa Griesebach auction in Berlin, one of the most presigious German auction houses. See the net for much more on this major German artist.
