Gouache on paper on board, 17 1/2" by 12 1/2" and 11/2" frame/mat, signed at lower right "MIZEN". This work has the feel of illustration art, and well it should as FREDERIC KIMBALL MIZEN (1888-1964) was a noted illustration artist, having done covers for the Saturday Evening Post. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators. Mizen studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a student of the Taos master Walter Ufer. Mizen's oils sell at major auctions. This work has some condition issues since it has doubtless changed hands a number of times and is not protected under glass. The old paper is browned and lightly scuffed in places. There's a missing piece about 3/4" long on the right edge, and a curving 3-4" crack/tear at left, as well as two other cracks at lower left. These can no doubt be repaired. The mat is later and needs to be replaced. I'd guess the age of the piece as circa 1910-1925. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP.
