Oil on canvas Scottish Highlands scene, 20" by 16" and 1 1/2" of frame, signed at lower left by the artist "W. MORRIS". Not dated, but likely last quarter of the 19th century. This painting has considerable mood and depth; ominous clouds still hugging the steep mountainsides after a heavy rain, shafts of sunlight breaking through the gloom to light up a distant mountainside, and several cattle and their human handler cross the bridge over a brook. The painting is in fairly typical shape for its age, with some old grime, some stretcher bars showing through, and when held up to the light, one can see some missing chips and thin canvas. That said, there's no serious damage. The frame is uninspring and should be replaced. Written in old pencil on the stretcher is something that looks like "A....... Glen". All in all this is a very respectable 19th century oil that should appeal to the collector of English or Scottish art. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP. .
