Etching of Victorian children playing in an interior, 10 3/4" by 8 3/8" inside the mat (not examined out of frame), pencil signed "R. Ernst" at lower right. This is an unusual medium for the artist, best known for his highly finished and detailed oil paintings of orientalist subjects. These oils regularly bring hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction. This etching is all original, meaning the original wood backing board, old soiled mat, and so forth. I will happily open this up upon request. The etching itself is foxed especially in the margin at bottom but also within the image itself. Foxing can be removed or lightened by professional cleaning.
