Ink drawing, 7 1/2" by 9 1/2" inside the mat (15" by 17" as framed), signed at lower right by artist DAVE POWELL, son of noted deceased Western American artists Ace Powell and Nancy McLaughlin Powell. There are no less than five figures in this complex and skillfully executed drawing. They are Tlingit warriors complete with traditional hats, war daggers, and capes. Charmingly, three classic totem poles appear at far left, with the images of Raven, Eagle, and Bear discernible, and at far right is the bow of a canoe. A plaque on the frame gives the title: "The Warrior's Cry", and on reverse framing board it is signed and titled again in the artist's hand. Powell, son of two Montana art legends and elected himself to the Cowboy Artists of America in 2004, is listed in the landmark 1982 Samuels book on contemporary western artists. This is a clean work and is ready for the wall. A fine acquisition for the collector of Alaskana and Northwest Coast artifacts and art. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PAINTINGS/PRINTS NOW IN MY SHOP.
