Oil on masonite, 14" by 12" in 2 1/2" wide wood frame, showing a colorful Haitian village with no less than 22 figures in the composition, most of them engaged in the cutting or processing or eating of sugar cane! The painting is intensely colorful and an excellent example of Haitian painting. The work is signed "J. Dorce" at lower right and dated "Haiti 1962" on the reverse. Condition is good with only a very minor scuff or two. Dorce is a listed artist with a $2,000 auction record at Christie's in the mid 1990's. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
