For the restorer in need of a challenging project, here is a damaged work, by listed American artist GEORGE W. DREW (1875-1968), showing a cottage and tree in a landscape against a cloud-filled sky, measuring 16" by 24" (20" by 28" as framed). Drew, a student of Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907), painted this motif over and over again, and arguably today he is best known for this particular cottage/tree/lakeside kind of scene. This painting bears a first half of 20th century label from a Lexington Avenue gallery or frame shop. I acquired it in Vermont in as-is condition: extensive paint loss, showing as the white areas in the various photos. It has been RELINED in recent years, evidently, but, it is not clear if the extensive paint loss has occurred before or after the relining. I think a talented restorer could save this work for art history. On the stretcher (last photo) appears to be written "afternoon autumn Conn.". See askart for more images of Drew's typical works. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP.
