If you're a serious collector of Haitian and naive art, or if you're merely decorating with a tropical flair, you might want to consider how this rare large room divider type self-standing painted screen might complement your room. This is a large work, each panel measuring 65" by 23", on six inch bamboo feet---and there are three of these panels; they are loosely attached with ribbon currently so they are very flexible and easily arranged. The bamboo used in the frame is about an inch wide. Images are of trees, flowers, and birds, against the neutral unpainted background of the board; the trees are titled "La Banane", "Labapin", and the birds are "Serpantier", "Susafleure" and "Pecheur". The artist, ADAM LEONTUS (1923-1986) has signed his name on one panel (see photo). Leontus is a major figure in early Haitian art. He was one of the earlly, historical members of the Centre d'art in Port-au-Prince, and one of the pioneers of the colorful Haitian art style we take for granted today. Leontus paintings are offered at auction and they are eagerly sought after by collectors for the colorful, naive, primitive style. This work has been stored for many years in the home of Connecticut relatives, so, currently it is located in Stamford, Connecticut about 45 miles from New York City. Due to the large size of the item, the ideal buyer would be an individual in the northeast or New York area who could come by to inspect the work and transport it. It could certainly be shipped, though; ask for a quote. Condition is excellent. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP including other Haitian paintings by listed artists of Haiti.
