Watercolor on heavy paper, 11 3/4" by 20", unframed, unsigned on front but with an inscription on reverse, by a talented artist, quite likely listed if we knew who he was. Note the pencil inscription on reverse, which reads "Copy from Mr. Pidgeon/A.G.W. Scotland". This is a beautifully executed 19th century work, English, Scottish, or Irish in origin, that will look great when you frame and preserve it. Watercolor on paper, 15" by 10 1/2" inside the mat (22" by 16 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "R. B. Johnston" (ROBERT BROWN JOHNSTON 1840-1914). This is a work by a listed Scottish artist who seemed to have painted his way around Scotland and England in oil and watercolor. The color in the work is extremely fresh, with no sun fading or foxing. The old mat though is tired and needs a new one. Watercolor on browned paper, 6 3/4" by 9 7/8" and a narrow wood frame, circa 1850 judging from the clothing on the figures at left. I would suspect the work is English. There are feathery trees, distant mountains, and, if one looks closely, tiny figures by a tiny boat, and a more distant boat with a sail. Offered for sale is an extensive classical Italian Mediterranean landscape on paper signed at lower right by artist Karl Nacke. Measuring 15 1/2" by 23 1/4", the watercolor colors are unusually fresh for the age of the work.
