Sometimes a painting has an indescribable essence....this is one of those. Perhaps, this is why it was shown at the Pavillon de Marsan and Palais du Louvre in April and May of 1930 when it came from the l'aquarelle conservee of the Wallace Collection in London. It can be found in the Expositions catalogue on page 3, n 18. Its provenance is the ancient collection of Audra. Circa 1830. Unsigned on canvas. On the backside is the inscription, " Esquisse je son tableau." 1801 - 18_ _ ? And an old sticker from Rue de la Terrasse in Paris. Inova blue light inspected. It is needless to say that photographs will never do this painting justice...the texture, tones and even the saint painting in the upper right corner that looks down on the Money changer cannot be seen in a photograph. Canvas measures 7.5" wide by 9.5" High.
