French Gilt Side Chairs - pair

These French chairs are a superb example of a master craftsman's labor of love. Please use zoom to see details. The paint job is original as far as I can tell. There are two different paint applications on them - the difference is a layer of green is used in certain areas. The paint layers are cream, vermilion, 'green' and gold. The green was used around the beading and the gulley's before and behind the cording. The green under the gold delivers a dark, almost black tarnished tone that highlights and helps pop the layers of work. All of the work is hand carved wood. The legs are reeded and tapered. Very sturdy. Good condition. France. c1870. Measures: 37 1/2" H, 19" W and18" D.
