Virgin and Child 16th or 17th Century Painting

This amazing painting came from a Scottish Manor house. It is believed to be Dutch and a 16th / 17th century work of art... or older. It takes your breathe away. The gentle mother-child gaze has a Mona Lisa-esque feeling that stays with you. It is a very rare opportunity to own something this old and wonderful. Just look at the child's reach for his mother and the gentle & loving gaze.... and her softness and flushed cheeks. Also, note her clothes - the collar, dress and her throw and the simple dark and rich colors. Measures 22 1/4" high by 16 1/4 wide.

After researching several hundred sold Virgin paintings I have notice that it is similar to some paintings by Jan Brughel the Younger of Antwerp (1601-78) - please note that I am not suggesting it is his...only similar with the garlands and dark background.

This painting is different than the 500 sold old master paintings that I have reviewed in the depiction of the parental relationship. There is an 'affetti' or emotional sentiment that is captured by the child's hand reaching for the Virgin and her gaze.

It is framed between two pieces of Museum glass. Absolutely no glare, color true & 99% UV safe. It free floats with 4" of glass space before the frame.

My pictures do not do this painting justice...it has a magical presence and her gaze always seems to follow you in the room. There is an incredible tenderness in this work of art.
