This is a fantastic polychrome statue. The masterful craftsmanship is evident at every turn. The sweeping flow of the clothing, hair waves and layers, and the mid-movement of the figures are captured perfectly. If you look close enough you can find the push-pull strokes of the carver and faint chisel tap marks...but most have been sanded and smoothed out before the gesso layer was put on to provide a smooth painting surface.
