My mother found these lovely glasses at an estate sale in St. Petersburg, Florida; and wow what a find. These glasses were made by a Bavarian glass house called Theresienthal in 1885-1903. This style of the class is known as a Bavarian Wine Roemer and the shape and size of the glass is known to enhance the flavor of your wine.

The stem of this glass is green with a hint of amber in certain lights. It has large wafers or bubbles and the top wafer is decorated with prunts or I have seen them described as raspberries. The glass itself is hand etched with grapes and leaves and each glass differs slightly in the etching attesting to the fact that each piece was hand done.

3 of the 5 glasses are in excellent condition. The other two glasses have minor problems. One has a nick in the inside of the rim and on the underside of the foot. The other has a shave on the inside of the rim. None of the nicks or shaves are sharp but I would say they have been smoothed down at some time. Also they are not deep into the glass and you could take them to a glass grinder located at almost any antique show and have them ground down and you would have a perfect, 5 piece set.

If I still have this set when Renningers have their Antique Extravaganza I will most likely have this done; but the price will go up. We have these glasses priced just over half their value and having a glass ground normally does not cost over $8.00 to $10.00.

This is an extraordinary find, they display beautifully and can be used if you so desire.
