Antique Napoleon III Mother of Pearl Thimble Box with Original Thimble

A rare and fancy thimble souvenir probably originally purchased by a traveler to France during the Napoleon III period. Travelers of that era loved to purchase small items to bring back home for a loved one or to impress dinner guests. A rare item for a collector of sewing memorabilia!

The Mother of Pearl is in perfect condition and has a beautiful sheen with pink and greenish-blue highlights. The hinge and latch work perfectly. The gold hinge and rims have darkened with age. The center of the rim is engraved with an intricate scroll design.

The size of this beautiful box is 1 3/4" in length, 1" in depth, and 1" high. This is the original thimble! It stands 5/8" tall.

The inside of the thimble box is original and intact. Other than the lining in the lid showing some slight deterioration, this little gem is in excellent condition!
