Talented American amateur artist R. Almondinyar (hard to read as signed unobtrusively, even under magnification) decorated this Charles Martin high-handled bowl, the colors still look fresh and pretty more than a century later and the gilt shows only minor wear; this was a cherished piece. The bowl is free of chips, cracks, and restoration, there are some rough spots on the base that appear to be extra clay that stuck there when the bowl was pulled from the kiln. Charles Martin used this mark after 1891 but by the early 1900s they had switched to a different mark. The piece is decorated front and back, and the curved handles add a touch of distinction, I have never seen this mold before.
The gilt overall is in remarkable shape for the age of the piece, deep pink roses are painted around the entire surface of the bowl, which stands about 4 inches high at the top of the curved and molded handles. The bowl measures 6 1/2 inches across its lovely handles. This is a marvelous opportunity to secure a highly unusual piece in its elegance and shape.
