I love the clean lines of this stylish antique Bernardaud & Co. Limoges footed cachepot. Most pieces with this mark were painted by amateur American artists, this one has been painted in the conventional style popular near the beginning of the twentieth century. The cachepot features a transfer design (a pattern was used for the outline, and then the inner portions meticulously hand painted, this is called the mixion technique) of trumpet vines and heavy gilt trim. The mark is the oldest of the B & Co. marks and dates 1900—1914.

The cache pot (translated literally, hide the pot) is a square, standing 5 ½ inches tall and about the same wide. Narrow gilt panels outline the central floral theme, and the gilt is in very good condition for the age of this piece, with minor wear. There are a couple of small blemishes on the pale yellow background color here and there, they are small and not distracting. This style of painting is referred to as conventional, it was in vogue .

My mother had a gorgeous indoor small hydrangea (endless summer) and we dropped that in to see what would happen. It made a splendid display as there was such a fun contrast with a new plant in an antique cache pot, the colors of the porcelain paint complemented her hydrangea blooms beautifully.
