This is a most beautiful antique velvet jacket, in the Elizabethan style. Every detail is exquisite from the frothy and very feminine neck ruff, to the wonderful gathered flounce and trim on the bottom of the jacket. The ruff is made of a lovely cream colored net which was doubled, then gathered down the middle resulting in two separate pieces when sewn to the neck opening. The result is a beautiful and elegant frame around your doll's throat. The jacket fabric itself is absolutely gorgeous - I have never seen anything like it. The material is a black silk, on which float beautiful leaf designs, in addition to very thin horizontal stripes - these leaves and stripes are the most beautiful shade of navy blue velvet The inside of the jacket has been lined with a cream colored buckram and down the inside side seams are concealed stays which make the jacket keep its hourglass shape. The jacket does not open all the way - the bottom ruffle, which is 1 1/4 inches wide is one continuous piece. The bottom of the jacket ends in a point in the front and back, then rises up at the hips. The jacket closes by means of little black hooks and eyes all the way up the inside and these meet so well that no seam line can be noticed. Now for the outside. The ruff has been described - next down the front are eight wonderful, hand knotted black buttons - these are for decoration only, as there is no buttonholes. At the top of the sleeves are little cream colored, self lined silk caps which have a beautiful black trim, which alternates with more knotted buttons - five on each cap. Cascading from the cap, is first an open sleeve and then the true sleeve itself. The open sleeve is lined with the same cream silk as the cap. The true sleeves have gathered cuffs of the silk and again the beautiful black trim. The bottom flounce, which as previously mentioned is 1 1/4 inches wide, is made of the same silk and it too is self lined and sports more black trim. I have tried to show the beautiful fabric with all its detail and the true colors of the jacket are found in the last pictures. This gorgeous jacket is meant to fit a thin doll - most probably a fashion doll or whatever other doll is lucky enough to be the right size. Measurements: Neck circumference: 5 3/4 inches - Between shoulders: 4 1/2 inches - Chest circumference: 11 1/2 inches - Waist circumference: 10 inches - Hip circumference (the narrowest part of the jacket and does not open due to the ruffle): 10 1/4 inches - Jacket length: 7 inches to the point (8 1/4 inches including ruffle) and 5 1/4 to the hip (6 1/2 inches including ruffle): Open sleeve length, to longest point: 10 inches - Inside sleeve length: 6 inches - Cuff width: 2 inches - Sleeve opening: 3 inches. This is a gorgeous little jacket in outstanding condition and will be just breathtaking on the right doll.
