This is a truly exquisite and stunning antique French bonnet. No doubt it is one of a kind and probably made around the 1890's. The bonnet is fully wired and lined with a heavy cream silk that has only four little melting spots - otherwise it is very sturdy and in great shape. All along the outer area framing the silk is a beautiful braided and ruched ribbon trim. The outside top of the bonnet has heavily gathered beautiful black velvet framing the face and which continues to the back. Next there is gorgeous ruched and pleated cream lace over black netting - which shows through where the lace has melted in one small area. On the back of the bonnet is beautiful black gathered lace which is scalloped and enhanced with an abundance of flower and leaf designs. This is entwined with more of the beautiful cream lace and all is encircled with a thin band of very delicate black jet beads in round and diamond shapes -from this area is where the velvet ties are located - with each tie being over 24 inches long. Perched on the very top of the bonnet is a posy of antique silk flowers with thistle centers, flower buds and green leaves - these are just gorgeous. On the left side of this treasure is a beautiful black and exceptionally fluffy ostrich feather. Emma, who is my model, has a head circumference of 12 inches - 12 1/2 including her wig - and it looks wonderful on her. This bonnet would work on a head circumference of up to 14 inches - not including a wig of no more than 1/2 inches in thickness. This is truly an exquisite bonnet that will look wonderful on your dollie.
