About Us
Irene Joyce spent two decades working in the wholesale jewelry industry.
The concept of designing and making fine jewelry that would also be easy for those who are arthritic, handicapped and elderly came about after she was involved in an auto accident; and, when her mother moved to a low-rise apartment designed especially for the elderly. She experienced and learned first hand how frustrating fasteners became once fingers became arthritic, when only one hand could be used, and when one could no longer see or feel the clasp.
Designing and making jewelry was the outcome of collecting and studying beautiful quality antique and collectible jewelry as a means to restore her lost memory after her auto accident. One day, while looking at a piece, suddenly she remembered the work of the repair department employees, and everything began to click in her mind. And, she began to repair.
When cancer struck in March, 2000, facing a year of chemotherapy; she vowed not to give up her dream of one day owning a shop. She found that designing was a natural talent which emerges from her directly onto a bead board or into metal. And, even though it took two to three weeks or more to complete a piece back then, she never quit.
In 2001, a second cancer left her very weak and fatigued but, she managed to keep designing and creating.
She began selling out of her home three years ago, and despite health battles, with the help of her husband who is the principle photographer, her dream of selling on Ruby Lane is finally coming true.
Irene searches the world for top quality materials from which to make her jewelry. Once in a while, a particular blend of color or a certain "eye appeal" can only be found in a "mixed" bead which she may use as a focal point. Beads are always brought up to a higher standard by hand polishing or glazing. Each piece goes through labor intense and time-consuming details that are not found in manufactured jewelry. And, often, one piece can take several days or even a week or more to complete. All jewelry is made with the idea that the buyer will love the piece so much that they will want to pass it on to future generations, and that the piece will be loved by future generations as well.
The prophet Gibran said: "Your Work is Love Made Visible" Irene truly hopes that you can see the love that she puts into her work and that you will love each piece you purchase as much as she loved making it for you.
