This item is a 2 inch tall wax pear German Christmas ornament. It dates to the 1800's. There is a little doorway opening carved out of the front of the ornament, which is still attached with a small piece of twine. When the littly piece of twine at the top is pulled, the doorway opens and inside is revealed a small woodland scene of the Virgin Mary holding Baby Jesus. These two tiny figures are also made of wax.
Baby Jesus has a coiled wire halo at the back of his head and Mary has a gold crown, the very front part of which is missing.
There are some cracks in the exterior of the pear, and when the little door is put in place, there is still an open area on the left side, so the door does not fully cover the opening in the pear.
Overall, this piece is in wonderful condition, considering its and and fragility.
